In March 2010, 4 young people left Maryland to walk across the country and pick up trash. They averaged about 100 lbs. of trash per mile, and in 5 months, had picked up 73,000 lbs. "...it's not necessarily about knowing that you are going to pick up every single piece of garbage in the North American continent... but about being able to get it up and showing people that this was yours; this is yours; this is still yours - you live with this..." - Johnna Jackson, age 22.

Outstanding, highly commendable and wonderfully inspirational. Thank you for documenting this powerful and productive journey. I have been on my own Shoreline Cleanup here in Vancouver, Canada. I am meeting, engaging with and inspiring my fellow Canadians to do the same each time I do a cleanup. I mind my own business as I pick up trash and people simply approach me to be curious about what I am doing, thank me, and tell me I've inspired them to do the same. I, myself, was inspired by someone else picking up trash...and this video is adding to that motivation for me. What I'm most moved by is the passion of the youth in this video, and their awareness of the consumer culture that exists particularly in North America, as well as globally in other affluent countries. I am deeply grateful for your efforts and the education this video provides. BRAVO!

  •  Learn more facts, trivia and "other stuff" about your garbage and recycling.  For example, did you know that Americans use 4 million plastic bottles every hour?!?
  •  Next time you go for a walk, take a bag and pick up any trash you see.
