Concrete is the most used building material today. And the production of Portland cement, which is the main cementing component of concrete, produces a ton of carbon dioxide - a greenhouse gas - for every ton of cement produced. Biomineralization expert Brent Constantz was inspired to make a new cement by the way corals build reefs. The process of making this cement actually removes carbon dioxide from the Earth's atmosphere.
