SIngle-use plastics are an abomination. They consist of a hard-to-extract, non-renewable raw material (oil), polymerized through a high-energy process, involving toxic chemical add-ins, and leaving dangerous manufacturing by-products. In other words, they are an environmental and public health disaster -- before they are ever used. When single-use plastics are used, by definition, these "convenience items" immediately become waste. And that's where the bigger environmental impact occurs. It is estimated that 10% of all waste -- and 50 - 80% of all marine debris -- is plastic. This film focuses on what happens to single-use plastics after their brief moment of utility has passed.
