Ideally, we’d like to believe all children aging out from the foster system become productive members of society. In reality, a significant portion transition straight to living on the streets. They have no education, no job, no guidance — and no hope. Lauri Burns herself was a former foster child cast into the streets. Determined to stop the cycle, Lauri established the Teen Project, a system of transitional housing for former foster children to live when the foster system no longer wants them. Its occupants have a safe home to stay in while attending school or working. With direction and support, they have the ability and the chance to move into the world with knowledge, confidence, and a future.
