Abused by a misused ancient cultural practice, and rejected by her society, Mahananda, a former Devadasi, escaped her life as a child prostitute. She was cast out into a world with no skills, no education, and no support. But with the assistance of the Hope Project, Mahananda rose above her situation to become a thriving business owner. Mahananda’s courage is a touching example of the power of resilience and self-reliance to fight back against oppression. Drawing on her experiences, Mahananda began her own business. She hopes to employ other women to empower them with self-sufficiency through work skills and employment.
