With the return of peace and familiarity to Brazzaville, Congo, so follows the Society of Elegant Persons of the Congo, the Sapeurs. The club, comprised of impeccably dressed men donning fashionable attire, welcomes Sapeurs of all ages to its commune. However, the society goes beyond men’s style and ordinary flash. It promotes fellowship, creativity, and celebrates individualism amid life’s choices in the former war-worn region. Their philosophy is to defy their circumstances, and live with "joie de vivre." As one Sapeur explains: “At my age of 78, with the Sape, I don’t get old. I’m forever young.”
