Here’s a look into Orange Sky Laundry, Australia’s first mobile laundry service for the homeless, founded by two twenty-year olds, Nic Marchesi and Lucas Patchett in 2014. Starting out with one van, the service has expanded into a nationwide movement helping to serve the approximately 105,000 homeless in Australia and eventually being a boon to those hit by Tropical Cyclone Marcia in 2015. And while something as simple as clean clothes may certainly be a boost to self-confidence for those in need, Orange Sky Laundry’s movement has grown into a source of human connection and uplift for volunteers and recipients of aid alike.
