Artist Paul Smith was born with severe spastic cerebral palsy and could not feed or dress himself. Yet in the 40 years he spent at the Rose Haven Nursing Home in Oregon, until his death at age 85, Smith created works of art that grace the walls of the nursing home with the 10 symbol keys of a manual typewriter. Unable to hold a pencil or a paintbrush, Smith found a way to express his passion for art, inspired by the places he'd been and the people he'd met. Depending on the size and complexity of the picture, it would take Smith anywhere from two weeks to three months to complete a piece - all of which he gave away.
