Nick Joyce is a representative for NextGEN Internationa,l focusing on ecovillages and how people can live intentionally in their community. Nick describes an intentional community as one focusing on a balance between the individual and the group as a whole. Each person has to be willing to work for the betterment of all, without giving up their personal power or sense of self. Like a drum circle, each drummer must be willing to listen, but also willing to contribute in order to avoid both silence and chaos. There is also a high importance placed on accountability when considering everyone’s personal freedom. While not everyone is ready to move into an ecovillage, they serve as an excellent example for those wishing to bring more intentionally to their existing communities. If we all live with intentionality, balancing our personal needs with those of the greater good, and remembering the interconnectedness of all people and our earth, the world will be a much better place.
