Many kids in cities have never seen nature beyond parks. Marilyn Price’s Bikes for Kids program seeks to introduce at-risk youth to nature by taking them out on bike rides. Getting out in nature helps them clear their minds and focus more on the important things. Some of the kids have even seen academic improvement after being involved with the program, going from failing to getting A’s and B’s. There is also a Earn a Bike program, allowing students to work on bikes to earn points. This gives students an opportunity to get a valuable as well as rewarding work experience. While the program started in San Francisco, there are chapters of the program across the United States.
