Poaching is a dangerous practice that threatens endangered wildlife in many areas on the world. CNN Hero Edwin Sabuhoro took a unique approach to combat the practice in a local conservation park in Rwanda. While studying to become a lawyer, Edwin visited a wildlife park and was struck by the beauty and mystery of mountain gorillas. He decided to become a ranger to protect the gorillas from poachers. He began to interview locals about why they were poaching these gorillas and was met with a stunning answer: poachers were hunting these animals to provide for their starving families. Edwin's response to this situation was to develop a cultural village for tourists to visit. He took it upon himself to educate the villagers on farming practices, cultural cooking, and unique performances that would bring income to the local families and also inspire visitors to contribute to conserving the park. Sometimes the solution to a problem is merely asking the right questions and developing creative solutions.
