Over 21 million Americans struggle with substance abuse. Yet many of these people feel isolated and different. Add to that the fact that alcohol and other substances can become a large part of a person’s identity, and that letting go of any aspect of your personality can feel like a loss. Change can be scary. Even if one’s life is uncomfortable and difficult, it is at least familiar. Undergoing the transformation recovery requires takes courage. Here Tiffany Hall, a recovering alcoholic, shares her journey with us, a journey that brought her step by step from feeling solitary and isolated to being strong, connected, and complete. We learn that while change may be scary when contemplated as a whole, broken up into steps it becomes more manageable. And “the journey to recovery starts with day one.”
