Cleft lip is a condition that affects children all over the world and many of these children are left untreated due to the staggering costs of surgery. When Sonali Ranaweera was 12, she learned about this condition after receiving $100 from her parents for Christmas with a stipulation "to make a difference." She also learned about recycling to make money and decided to use that money to increase her donation. She started her organization Recycling4Smiles to raise money for Smiles Train, which helps cover the cost of cleft lip surgery. To date, Sonali’s efforts have helped give 66 children the surgery they need to fix their smiles and give them a second chance at life.
