Through innovative art and storytelling, Aditi Gupta is committed to educating girls about menstruation. She aims to combat the shame, guilt and restrictive practices that are often associated with menstruation in her native India, where 3 out of 10 girls are unaware of menstruation when they get their first periods, and as many as 9 out of 10 girls in some parts of India begin menstruation with little or no awareness of what is happening to their bodies. She shines a light on this natural body function in order to increase self confidence and a sense of well being among the young people who are reached by Menstrupedia, a friendly guide to menstruation.
