Adele Intervalo was a lucky "scholar of the people." This name is given to students in the Philippines who receive government scholarships in recognition of their high school academic achievement. This money did not cover all of her expenses and she still had to be careful with her spending. However she and 29 of her friends in similar circumstances decided they wanted to pay forward what little they had. They committed 150 pesos a month (about $3 U.S.) to helping someone else. This may not seem like much but it meant some of these young people had to skip meals or walk to school, saving bus money. Because of their small sacrifices, Patrick, who had given up his dream of college in order to help his family's finances, was able to go to school. Their story tells us that we all can make a difference.
