When a friend invited Paula Claussen to make the short trip from her home in San Diego, California, across the border to Tijuana, Mexico, to donate clothes to people in need, little did she know that day would change the course of her life. The living conditions of people in the outskirts of Tijuana shocked Claussen. This inspired Claussen to create Project Mercy, a non-profit organization builds houses for people in that community. Since its founding in 1991, the organization has built more than 1,250 free homes for residents. Project Mercy has pioneered safe, secure homes are made with wood frame and concrete slab floors, that can be built in one day with the help of volunteers and community members. Watch to see the impact adequate shelter can make in a family's life.
