In remote areas of Liberia, there are villages that are hours away from the closest health clinic. People do not get the health care they need and often die before they can get to a hospital. The child mortality rate is high, especially for kids under five that are exposed to malaria. Thanks to Last Mile Health, which was started in 2007, people in these remote villages are getting the training and resources they need to help treat illnesses in people of all ages. This is helping to significantly reduce the child mortality rate. Last Mile Health connects American health workers to those in Liberia to provide life-saving training to help ensure that those in remote villages have access to healthcare.
