Youthful enthusiasm interfaces with a city's needs in this mutually beneficial sustainability project. New York City’s “Green City Force” is a service program that teaches young people between the ages of 18 and 24 how to live a sustainable lifestyle within a city environment, and sends them out to teach others in their community to do the same. The young people are often unemployed. They learn valuable skills that can translate to future careers. A local energy company teamed up with the program, hiring 7 of its graduates, giving participants an opportunity to get paid for doing what they have come to love while using their new skills.
