Do you think of hip hop as revolutionary? What about hip hop as a basis for education? It’s both at CASA, the Cornerstone Academy for Social Action, a middle school in the Northeast Bronx headed by Jamaal Bowman. Pushing against narrow concepts of educating youth, CASA roots its philosophy in history—in black history, where hip hop has its place as a mode of social and political action. This trailer about CASA’s revolution gives a taste of a movement galvanizing education, one that speaks for broadening and transforming the parameters of education for all youth.
