The indigenous community in San Miguel del Progreso, Mexico, won a landmark victory in May 2016 to protect their land from a proposed mining project approved without their consent. This victory was a result of community organizing and legal assistance from Human Rights Center of Tlachinollan Mountain. It is an unprecedented case—one of the first times federal justice protections have been afforded to an indigenous community to prevent unwanted mining activities.
