Being a victim of a crime, especially assault, can be tough to deal with, especially if the person who committed the crime was never punished for his or her actions. For Lorenn Walker, however, her experience inspired her to do more with her life. She was a single mom and and a year after the assault, she decided she wanted to become a lawyer because she was interested in justice. She received her bachelor’s degree and finished law school within seven years. Her traumatic experience gave her strength to move forward and help both victims and those who have committed acts of violence. The work she now does in restorative justice helps her heal, too.
