When was the last time you had an intimate conversation with a stranger? In many parts of the world, we're raised to believe that strangers are dangerous by default, and often engage in simple conversation with little semantic meaning. Through years of research, Kio Stark has noticed the powerful emotional connection that can emerge when we shed our fears and preconceived notions and instead allow bits of ourselves to be known by another. In this TED Talk, Kio describes the barriers that often impede such exchanges and offers viewers ideas on how they can facilitate deeper dialogue. "When you talk to strangers, you’re making beautiful interruptions into the expected narrative of your daily life and theirs. You’re making unexpected connections," she says. "If you don’t talk to strangers, you’re missing out on all of that.”
