Laughter yoga is exactly what it sounds like – minus the physical asanas. The simple act of laughing as much as possible coupled with yoga breathing techniques appears to have astonishing power on the mind, body, and soul. “The benefits that accrue are not simply physical, but mental, emotional, and perhaps even spiritual.” We only use about twenty-five percent of our lung capacity in our average everyday breathing. This allows toxins to accumulate. “In laughter, you are also getting rid of the toxins inside your lungs…and allows you to raise your lung capacity by thirty or forty percent”. People often ask, “what do you do?” with regard to laughter yoga. As simple as it sounds, it’s not that easy to describe. “It’s really that the laughter is inside of us. What we do is we bring it out.” Those who engage in laughter yoga don’t hesitate in touting its benefits. “Without laughter, life would not be worth living”, says one participant.
