Horizons National offers summer enrichment activities to pre-K through high school students from families with low incomes, with 45 programs in 15 states. Horizons works to prevent the summer slide, which is the cumulative impact of the lack of summer enrichment activities for low income students because of the prohibitive costs of these activities. With a 99% high school graduation rate and 91% of its graduates going on to higher education, Horizons is dramatic proof that children growing up in poverty can learn on a par with their counterparts from wealthier families if they are given the opportunity to gain skills like swimming and have access to books and technology during the summer break from school. The students' enthusiasm in their learning is contagious.
