Statistically, 7 out of 10 people who are released from prison return within a year of being released in the United States. However, re-entry programs such as Planting Justice are helping former prisoners break this cycle. Bilal Coleman was sentenced to prison when he was 17 and released when he was 37. In this video, Coleman chronicles his successful year free from incarceration, documenting the trials and tribulations of the re-entry process. To date, Planting Justice has created 40 jobs in food justice for people transitioning from prison.
