An individual effort by Jeremy Gilley has led the United Nations to adopt Sept. 21 as an international day of peace. Peace One Day has helped communities and governments all over the world recognize and honor this one day as a day of ceasefire and non-violence. It is not only symbolically important, but practically as well. When the guns fall silent, children can be immunized, aid can be moved and people can witness what it is to live in peace.
